Nigeria Immigration Service releases Omoyele Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, has been released by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) after being detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Sowore’s detention was due to a watchlist issued by the Department of State Service (DSS), which ordered his arrest upon arrival in Nigeria.
According to SaharaReporters, DSS cited his involvement in the recent #EndBadGovernance protests and his plans for an October 1 demonstration as reasons for the arrest.

Following his release, Sowore confirmed that his passport and personal belongings had been returned to him.
The incident showcases the ongoing tensions between the Nigerian government and activists advocating for political and social change in the country.
Sowore has been a vocal critic of the government, and his detention and release have sparked concerns about freedom of speech and assembly in Nigeria.
