Actor and former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to purchase a private jet amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
Kenneth took to Instagram, posting a photo of Tinubu alongside images of various jets, and expressed his disapproval of the President’s actions.
He accused Tinubu of showing a lack of empathy at a time when Nigerians are struggling with hunger, fuel shortages, financial and difficulties.
“People are dying of hunger. No food, no fuel, no finance, no electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. Tinubu’s purchase of new presidential jet amid economic hardship
His comments followed the official unveiling of the new aircraft on the same day.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, shared images of the new jet, explaining that it replaces a 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that had been in use since President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
Onanuga noted that the new jet was acquired at a significantly lower cost.
The decision to replace the aging B737-700 (BBJ) was reportedly influenced by an investigative hearing conducted by a House of Representatives committee, which highlighted concerns about the aircraft’s safety and cost-effectiveness.
