8 Things To Know About New Ondo Governor, Aiyedatiwa

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been officially sworn in as the substantive governor of Ondo State.

The oath of office was administered on Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olusegun Odusola.

The development follows the passing of the late state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday.

Here are 8 things to know about Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa:

1) Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was born on 12 January 1965 at Obe-Nla, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

2) Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Economics and Government from Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education) in 1986. Subsequently, he pursued an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration at the University of Ibadan in 2001. His educational journey continued with a Post Graduate Certification in Chief Executive Education (CEP) in Business Management in 2009. In 2013, he accomplished a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.

3) Aiyedatiwa joined active politics in 2011 as a card-carrying member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which later merged with other political parties and became the All Progressive Congress (APC).

4) The new governor from 2018 to 2019 serves as federal commissioner, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) representing Ondo State.

5) The new governor contested for the federal House of Representatives for Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly General Election.

6) Aiyedatiwa was deputy governor of Ondo State from 2021 to 2023 under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

7) He also acted as governor from June to September 2023 and earlier in December when Akeredolu was on medical leave.

8) Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was subsequently sworn in as Ondo State Governor on December 27, 2023, following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
