Ride-hailing giant Bolt has selected 20 finalists to participate in the upcoming Bootcamp phase of its innovative accelerator program, Den. These drivers, drawn from five Nigerian cities – Abuja, Lagos, Rivers, Kaduna, and Kwara – are gearing up for the pitch day scheduled for November 20, 2023.
During the pitch day, the finalists will present their inventive ideas to a distinguished panel of judges representing diverse sectors such as technology, banking, and education. The panel will meticulously scrutinize and vet the ideas, ultimately shortlisting the top 10 drivers.
The shortlisted drivers will not only receive €2,000 in seed funding but will also gain access to a 6-week business mentorship program. This initiative aligns with Bolt’s broader Africa City Vision, emphasizing sustainable transport solutions.
In collaboration with The Nest Innovation Park, Bolt is committed to funding business plans developed by Nigerian drivers. The Nest’s network of mentors will support eligible drivers in shaping their business plans before the pitch day.
Ewoma Jerry-Ogeme, Public Policy Specialist for Bolt in Nigeria, expressed excitement about the initiative, recognizing the crucial role drivers play in shaping the future of mobility. She emphasized the anticipation of witnessing the evolution of innovative ideas during the ideation process.
Programs Manager at The Nest, shared her excitement during the induction of the 20 drivers into Bootcamp. She acknowledged the drivers’ innovation, determination, and talent, highlighting the transformative experience that lies ahead.
The Bolt Den initiative will culminate in a grand finale on November 21, accompanied by the Award Ceremony. Additionally, the event will feature the launch of a new study from the Oliver Wyman Mobility Forum titled “Shared Mobility’s Global Impact” in Africa and Europe.
