Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, yesterday, assured the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, that the people of the state will vote for equity, fairness, justice and for the unity of Nigeria in the February 25 polls.

Makinde, who hosted Tinubu at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, said the country must exist first before anyone would be talking about politics.
On the encourage of Tinubu were former Governors of Osun State (Chief Bisi Akande and Gboyega Oyetola), the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare; the Speaker of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, former Governor Kayode Fayemi, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankoke, Dr. Betta Edu and others.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Tinubu said he was in Oyo State to solicit the endorsement of Governor Makinde.

Responding, Makinde said he would choose unity of the country, equity and fairness over politics.
He therefore urged Tinubu to carry on with his campaign, saying Oyo people would vote for equity and fairness in February 25.
Makinde said many governors from different parties have governed the state.

Makinde said:”Players will come and go but our country will remain. So, we, the G-5 and Integrity Group, are saying that if we have to choose between the unity of this country and our political aspirations, we will choose the unity of this country.
“So, I alluded to the sacrifices made by our colleagues, the governors of the APC from the Northern part of the country, because we also monitored your emergence and they sacrificed some certain things for the unity of the country. We have to move on as a people.

“We have to evolve a system such that there will be inclusivity, fairness and equity in our we run this country.Just like I mentioned, different political parties, different players, but if the country does not survive, the political party will fade away. Political parties cannot operate independently. So, it is only a few days to go, but one thing I want you to take away today is the fact that we will vote for equity, fairness, justice and for the unity of Nigeria.
“Please, feel free to pass your message to our people and February 25 is a date with history”.

Earlier, Tinubu, had sought Makinde’s support in his effort to become the next president.

Tinubu said:”It is a campaign day for my aspiration to become the elected president of the federal republic of nigeria. that cannot operate in a vacuum
“I am aspiring to be the president of united, one country, Nigeria. And for that sake, political divides and separation must be clearly out of our way. And that is why the first port of call should be the Chief Executive and Security officer of the state constitutionally. And that is why I am here to give you the insight of why we are here in Oyo State today. Thank you for the good reception you gave us. It is not easy to take an opposition entourage into the canopy of your shed.
” But you did. Equally, you have demonstrated the characteristics of a good leader, persevering and working individual regardless of political divides and respectful in every aspect of your behaviour. So, today, I decided to give you that respect. Thank you for the good work you are doing in Oyo State.

“I am greatly proud to be at this historical building where several political histories were concluded. You are a very lucky individual to have been part of this since you took over the reins of this state.
“I am here to pay a simple respect and explain to you that we will behave ourselves during the campaign rally to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and equally, to be of service to our nation. It is about time we looked at politics from different prism. and removed all antagonistic .. constitutional democracy allows that . I wish you well and believe if you look around, you can easily see the difference between all of us that remain in the race.
” I believe I am better and more qualified and competent than any other candidate. I am the best of them all. I am here equally to solicit your worthy endorsement”.
